Coastal Bedroom Decor
I couldn’t do a full makeover for my bedroom this time…I honestly didn’t have the energy to pull out all the stops like I wanted to. But I did give it a little refresh. Here’s the before:
And here’s the after:
A little color goes a long way! I only added a few items and trimmed out the windows. I still want to do a ceiling treatment, wall treatments, new paint colors, maybe some wallpaper, new lighting, and hang curtains.
One of my favorite styles, especially for the summer, is the coastal style. You know, ‘beachy.’ I like to start with a pretty neutral base in the room, like white linens, wood tones, and other neutrals like gray and turquoise. Turquoise? As a neutral? I totally use shades of turquoise in my house as neutrals. It’s throughout my entire house, always as a neutral and not as an accent color. It goes with nearly any other accent color, like coral or pink or green or navy blue. It works with so many colors that it qualifies as a neutral.
A recent addition to my bedroom was this bookcase. We have had our books in boxes since we moved and I was itching to unpack some of them. Also because many of our movies were in the boxes and I was sick of going through every one to find the one I wanted to watch. Now they are safe in the little media boxes on the bookcase.
I purchased the bookcase at Walmart.com, part of the Better Homes and Gardens at Walmart line, it’s the Crossmill Bookcase. I was really impressed with this bookcase because even though the finish is a veneer, it’s a very convincing one–it looks like weathered wood and it’s beautiful! I saw they just got it with doors too and that one’s really pretty also!
The wood really looks weathered and even feels weathered. It’s got a more rough ridge finish. But it really is beautiful, and I think it has added so much to this space.
It was pretty easy to put together, only took me about 45 minutes. They actually have an entire collection in this style and they are all great! I decided to add this to my bedroom which was feeling a little blah.
In addition to the bookcase, I brought in some fun, summery pillows with aqua and coal on them. They matched the coral pillow on the chair in the corner and bring some life into this room.
I know that neutral rooms are very popular, but I get depressed without a little color. I love to find fun, colorful accessories and then I can change them out with the change of the seasons or whatever.
I also got some lamps in the neutral aqua color as well. And I actually plugged them in! They are lighting my bedroom right now as I type this. These are also Better Homes and Gardens at Walmart purchases.
I’m excited for how this room is turning out. I have a few more coastal accessories like shells in apothecary jars, my ships wheel, my sea glass vase, my bamboo woven tissue cover. And of course, all the beachy colors. I’m crushing on my coastal bedroom decor. How do you refresh your room for the summer?

Aw thanks Debbie!
Looks amazing! I love a costal/beachy vibe too! The trim on the windows definitely makes a huge difference as well! Beautiful!
Thanks! I love the little changes, it has made a big difference!
Could you please tell me where your pillows are from? Love the room!
The blue pillow are from IKEA and the floral ones are from Home Goods. Thanks!
Hi. Love the new look. Can you tell me what color the paint is on the wall ?
Thanks! It’s called Passive Gray by Sherwin Williams
Is your paint full strength and what finish? Eggshell? It’s the perfect shade of light gray. Love it. No purple whatsoever. Score!
Yes I think so. It’s Sherwin Williams Passive Gray (color matched to the builder’s paint.)
