Memory Quilts with A Girl in Paradise
One of my favorite things to make are Memory Quilts.
A Memory Quilt is a quilt made up of clothes but are not just limited to t-shirts. You would be amazed what can be added into a memory quilt. As long as it is made of fabric it can be added, though sometimes you need the aid of some sort of stabilizer or interfacing.
The first memory quilt I made happened almost by accident. A girl I knew in the mom’s group I belong, was talking about wanting to have one done but couldn’t find anyone to do it. So, I volunteered to help her. We made plans to get together and go through what she had for clothes and what she had in mind for the quilt.
I wasn’t quite ready for the two plastic bins of baby clothes she brought over, but luckily she just wanted a basic patchwork pattern. So, over the course the next 6 months I turned all those clothes into this twin size quilt.
Here is a picture of the front and the back.
Yup, it was like two quilts in one. The thing weighed like 20 pounds but she loved it and it included almost all of what she brought over.
Ever thought of turning those clothes into a memory quilt?
Why not?
It is a great way to include those special outfits that are too cute to pass along or that gift that wasn’t quite your style, and even the outfits that were stained beyond recognition and couldn’t possibly be donated.
Thanks Ann! Memory quilts are SO cool and SO special! Make sure to check out her blog for more great examples!
Wow! That is one fabulous quilt! What a great idea… I would love to do this. Thanks for the inspiration.
So neat!! I am currently working on my daughter's baby clothes quilt;) I love how this one is pieced together!
Hi, I love the idea of the memory quilt the only thing I’m unsure of is how big to make the squares…I just had a baby girl and I’m anxious to get started with just getting the pieces I want cut so I can toss what I don’t use and just save the pieces that I need/want. If you could let me know I would greatly appreciate it alot.
Thanks
Not sure since this was a guest post but I think you could measure how small the smallest piece of clothing is and make them all that size OR you could just decide on a standard size like 5×5 and make it work!
