I couldn’t think of a post idea for today so I went through my old pictures to see if there was anything I missed posting about. And yes, here it is…my sons’ April birthday party. 🙂
My party was pretty simple, nothing over the top. The party budget was tight and the time allowance was even tighter. But I still think it turned out cute and my kids loved it.
After taking about an hour to figure out issues with my Silhouette, I was able to cut out this bunting with it. Thanks to Natalee I was able to crank it out faster. I just did it out of paper and added the circles from a free thing I found on the internet somewhere. (Sorry the picture is super washed out–I was still getting used to my new camera.)
For the food I just did some simple frozen things from Costco. That was a bad idea. Now I know why people do chicken salad sandwiches at these things because all the food got cold FAST. The fruit plate looked nice though! I bought little water bottles from Costco and made a label that said “Choo Choo!”
For the cake, I really wish I had the time or expertise to make a super awesome cake. (Remember I was like 8 weeks preggo and SUPER tired too.) What I ended up doing was buying a plain chocolate cake from Costco. I whipped up some frosting in gray and green for the tracks and trees. And I just added it all on at the party. We put on a toy Thomas train and I printed out some Thomas clouds with my kids’ names on them (stuck in with toothpicks.) Easy Peasy!
Lukey’s first birthday cake. He’s thinned out so much since this picture! He started out okay…
And ended up a giant mess. What else is new?
But really the 3-year-old couldn’t stay clean either, so…
Things to remember for my next kids’ birthday party:
Have it at a house, a backyard, so that you don’t get bawled out by the grumpy old man who thinks its his job to make sure no one can break the code of the HOA. (He seriously tried to shut down my kids’ party. Really, guy? Do we look like vandals? Hoodlums? Do you want to be the one to tell my son that he can’t have his birthday party? Really?)
Oh, Heidi, this is PERFECT timing!!! I’m gathering ideas for my son’s Thomas-themed party for early September. This party is adorable! So many ideas! Pinning away… 🙂
Thanks so much Michele!! Amazingly enough even though this party was very simple it was still SO stressful! 🙂 Good luck with your party!
Where did you find the clouds for the cake? Would like to do something similar with cupcakes. Thanks!
I made the clouds by finding a basic cloud image on the internet and using Photoshop to add in the words. Good luck!
