SmartSilk Pillows Review
Pillows can be a tricky thing to navigate. I’m not talking about throw pillows–which I probably need an intervention with. I’m talking about the sleeping-on-at-night ones, the ones you hide behind 400 throw pillows on your bed because they are always deflated and lumpy and terribly wrinkled.
I’ve tried many different kinds of pillows–everything from feather to down alternative to the um, regular kind(?) not sure what they are called. The regular kind start out super comfy, but give them a few weeks and the filling starts to bunch up and shift around and you soon have a lumpy pillow. If anyone has a remedy for this, to de-lumpify my pillows, please feel free to share! I’ve had feather pillows, which do well except when your daughter tinkles on them so you wash them and forget to throw them in the dryer immediately and then you have to air them out for a month to get that weird smell out.
I decided to try out the SmarkSilk pillows–pillows made completely of silk on the inside with a 100% cotton outer shell. They have all different types for whichever way you sleep (back, side, stomach.) I tend to sleep on my side and stomach the most, so they sent me a flatter pillow. My husband loves back sleeping so they sent him a back sleeper which is definitely a lot more plush. Check out the difference:
(Ignore that pillow behind the first one–it’s just for support.) This is the back sleeper…see how poofy it is?
And this sad looking fellow is the side/stomach sleeper. But don’t be deceived–it’s a wonderful pillow. Usually pillows this deflated don’t hold up. But this one is perfect for scrunching up if you need more support on your side or just being flat if you want to sleep on your tum. It feels as flexible as a feather pillow, but no feathers inside!
One time I got a stiff neck and it was horrible. I couldn’t move my head OR my entire body for several hours. I retreated to the bed and the only pillow that worked for pain was the back sleeper. Because the only position I was comfortable in was on my back. It provided the right amount of support for my poor neck and I actually got some relief.
But now my neck is all better and so I’m back to lil’ scrunchy up there. If you are interested in the right kind of pillow, I do enjoy these SmartSilk ones. However, I’m not yet afflicted with certain conditions that many of you struggle with–allergies, night sweats, fibermyalgia. These pillows are supposed to help out with all those things.
They are hypo-allergic. They feel like a feather pillow but don’t have feathers in them and are rich with the protein sericin (which is the best choice for people with skin allergies.) They are inhospitable to dust mites as well. They wick away excessive moisture, for those who have night sweats, they are resistant to mold and mildew, and also flame retardant. They have a temperature regulator so it can be cool when you are hot and warm when you’re cold.
There’s really a lot to know about the SmartSilk pillows and bedding, so for more information, I would suggest visiting their site.
I received product to review SmartSilk pillows, opinions are my own.
I must admit that I have owned and been using my Smartsilk pillow for 4 years now. When I first received it, it offered the perfect balance of comfort and support. However, after 4 years of use and multiple washes the content is now shifting around, lumpy and less supportive. Have you found this?
It’s actually not supposed to be washed. There’s something in the contents of the filling that keeps it sanitary, like Norwex rags. All you have to do is fluff it in the dryer.
I purchased the smartsilk pillows in the level 2 and then level 1 and I had to return both orders, at my own expense, so it cost me $49 in shipping for no product. I called prior to returning them to get authorization within the 60 days. Nothing was mentioned about the next order being 50% off because I was not happy with the first pillows.Customer service was useless. Very disappointed. Pillows were horrible. The level 2 was too high and the level 1 filling was scant and didn’t even fill the case and was bunchy.
Stacey at customer service told me after the fact that if you are not satisfied with the pillows they will give you 50% off the next order. Too late now she said.
The pillows and the comforter are HORRIBLE!! Pillows are not the right height or density (I tried the different levels at my own expense). Neck pain was unbearable with these pillows! And they are terribly HOT!! The comforter as well is so HOT , I cannot use it not even in the winter! Bought these a year ago, and tried them for a few very uncomfortable weeks.. The comforter for a month until I could not stand the heat from it any longer, either!! I am in a condo building (west side exposure), and have to keep my windows wide open all year round, or we suffocate! So packed them all up and been trying to sell them much cheaper on Kijiji for about 9 months, with no interest from anyone either. I am a senior on low income, with no pension from my work place. Any suggestions as to what I can do with these? They are like new!
thanks!
Audrey
Bought both level 1 and 2 tried for 2 weeks now and get no better sleep than with regular pillows. Maybe only good point is the reduction of allergens from regular foam pillows. Still your better off to go to a department store and but a good quality pillow.
I ordered a 3 of 4 firmness and there was nothing to this pillow, very, very small with very little filling. All contact info was incorrect and made it difficult to return. Staff was rude. After receiving the return it took them 33 days to refund the purchase price to my card. Not a good company to do business with. I’d like to post a photo here to show you there is more support in a $3 box store pillow. I spent $35 dollars in shipping and handling fees and no pillow 🙁
Not happy.. got level 3 what a waste of money… ( ya home run).. BS… I could have gotten a purfect pillow from Sears for less than half the price… way to soft, and suppose to stay cool, I was sweating… the heat stays….. If it was a great pillow, they would not have to advertise every day on TV.. but like everyone else.. I wanted to try and see if I can enjoy sleeping on a cloud…???
I got a standard level 3 pillow and I don’t like it I feel like I’m sleeping on a cloud no way no how can I get to sleep on this pillow
