Etsy: paper displays of affection
What do you think of when you think Origami? Betcha don’t think of jewelry! Suanne of Paper Displays of Affection has taken the art to a whole new level.
I started Paper Displays of Affection when I started my first job after college. I discovered I had a lot more free time than I was used to and I had a successful following on DeviantArt.com (DA). After making a few sales to people on DA, I realized I had the wherewithal to do something bigger than make pretty things, and Paper Displays of Affection was born!
How did you learn your craft?
I’ve been learning my craft over ten years! I pick up odds and ends from all over the place – books, online, and other origami aficionados.
What is your favorite thing about your craft?
I love how simple it is. Origami just takes paper – no paint, nothing that takes a lot of space, and shows only the skills, attention, and imagination of the folder. For art, its traditional and modern all at the same time.
Do you have any favorite items you make?
I love the money roses and hairpins. I love making paper functional and beautiful – I love surprising people with how versatile paper is!
What do you do during your free time?
Etsy IS what I do in my free time. Other than that, seeing movies, cooking, updating my food blog (www.chic-peas.blogspot.com) and hanging out with friends 🙂 I also have a day job in consulting.
Definitely check out her items! If you are looking for something super original, something that people will stop and ask you, “Where did you get that?” You need to visit her shop!
