Leather Leggings Tutorial with HoneyScrap
Hi! My name is Melissa and I am SO excited to be guest posting on Honeybear Lane!
You can normally find me at my little blog home called HoneyScrap. I have been obsessively crafting since I was a kid (I’m sure my mom loved walking into my room wondering what piece of furniture I was secretly painting) and I started my very own blog this year to share everything that I love:)
I found these size XS faux leather leggings at Walmart a while back for 50 cents. Every year I get Harley themed pictures taken of my daughter for my husband’s birthday (he used to be a Harley mechanic and is now a motorcycle instructor)…so I knew I could use them somehow in an outfit for her.
At first I was going to make a little jacket, but I took the easy route and decided to make leggings. I actually saw leggings like these at Target this week…so I guess she is just ahead of the trends:)
For measurements, I got out a pair of leggings that currently fit my daughter and cut down the new leggings to the same height plus 2 inches so that I could make a waistband later.
I cut the inner seam on each leg down to where the seam was on the old leggings. You could also measure your child’s inseam for a more accurate measurement. My daughter was in bed:)
Sorry, I don’t have a picture of how I pinned this together. I laid one leg right side down on the other leg that was right side up. I pinned the raw edges together all the way around and sewed them together with a straight stitch.
Here is the front:
Here is the back:
I turned them inside out and folded the top edge over 1″ and sewed it with a straight stitch.
I then folded the edge over another 1″ and sewed it with a straight stitch, leaving an opening so I could put my elastic through. I cut some elastic the size of my daughter’s waist, attached a safety pin to one end and fed it through the opening. I then sewed the ends of the elastic together, pushed it back into the gap, and sewed the gap shut.
And that’s it! Pretty simple leggings:)
I think they are ridiculous and adorable all at the same time:) Definitely the perfect touch for our Harley themed pictures!
My daughter loved them too. She didn’t want to take them off:)
I used the remaining legging material to make a matching bow that I glued to an old headband.
Total price of leggings and headband: $.50

Yay! Thanks for letting me guest post on your awesome blog:)
