Farmhouse Style & Art
Despite all my efforts to keep myself busy and my mind occupied…I can’t stop thinking about my future house. I’m very indecisive about what I want and since we still have awhile before we make any moves, I know I have time to decide. But one thing I keep coming back to is Farmhouse style. There’s something I love about the serenity of a farmhouse…out in the country with light colors and rustic furniture. My current decor has a lot of bright colors and modern elements, which I plan on incorporating a bit here and there, but it will all be very different in my new home.
Color schemes are neutral and earthy: gray, white, off-white, beige, tan, brown. There is a lot of white painted wood as well as natural raw wood and stone. I love this photograph and how it shows the rustic old farm tools that probably sit in the old stone barn.
Accessories are vintage and antique, cut flowers or shrubbery in simple vases like jars. Often times farm animal motifs will be used, although I prefer these to be used sparingly and in classic forms, like artwork. Isn’t this horse painting amazing?
Speaking of artwork, it’s not something I have never really had in my home. I’ve printed family pictures and occasionally other prints, but nothing that actually went with my home. I was inspired recently by art I saw on a farmhouse style blog, and I went to learn about artwork at Saatchi (which is where these pictures are all from.) I fell in love with all these pictures I’m sharing with you today and hope that I can somehow use them in my future farmhouse style home.
I love your blog, its full of beautiful things and ideas! I dream of owning a farmhouse too. I just started my own business this year painting. My poor little house does not have a good studio space so I use the kitchen. I stay up all night so my three little ones don’t get into the paint. I’m working hard though so I can finally have the space I need and the beautiful home I dream of.
Haha…we do what we have to right?
