Front Room Office Mockup & Modsy Review

Sharing is caring!

As you might remember, I’ve been working on renovating my front room office for like, a year.  To be fair, I was pregnant for most of last year so that’s my excuse for it not being done.  But another reason is because I keep changing my mind all the time about what I want!  It’s so helpful to be able to see what it looks like and I actually did a mockup for it here.  But I wasn’t in love with this mockup, so I decided to try doing an interior design consult with Modsy.

Modsy is an online interior design service that has you take a quiz to determine your style, then you send in photos and dimensions of the space you want designed, then they create a mockup for you to look at with all the furniture and decor sources.  It’s very similar to what I used to do with e-designs.  So here’s a little Modsy review for you!

I chose the office option since that’s mostly what it will be, although I need to have my piano in there as well.  It’s kind of a multi-purpose front room.  And my room is completely bare but you can tell them how much you need designed.

Here are all the photos I sent in…you can see a little behind the scenes of my Christmas decorating haha!  What’s so great about Modsy is that they don’t care how messy your room is, just send in at least eight photos.

So I just shot photos of each wall with my phone and then sent them in.  They also like to have all the measurements and even a floorplan.  This was easy for me since we built this house and our floorplan is still available online.  I just took a screenshot of the actual room.

Then I took a style quiz and determined my style was refined rustic, which I actually kind of agree with.  My style is pretty fluid so it’s hard to nail it down with just a couple words.

I also wrote in a couple of specific requests I had, things I was interested in seeing.  I really am planning on doing built-ins on the wall but they said they don’t have the ability to do that so they just subbed in some shelving and a desk.

Here are the different designs they sent me!

Design 1

I definitely liked some elements of this.  That piano is a lot nicer than mine, haha!  However I was more drawn to Design 2…

Design 2

I love the shelves and stuff from Design 1 but preferred the other items from Design 2.  And since I’m doing built-ins anyway, I chose Design 2.

Then I submitted a Redesign request:  I like this design (the one with the blue couch) but I’d like to see a mockup with a white washed brick wall behind the piano. Also I’d love to see the french doors painted black instead of gray. And could you do a round rug? I’m curious to know what that would look like. Thanks!”

Here are the changes:

Design 3

I love the black doors, so I think I’m going to do that.  I also love the Olive tree, the small metal coffee table and the round rug.  But I’m still super undecided about the brick wall!  What do you think…should I do it or not?  What elements of these designs do you prefer?

They also included all the sources of the furniture they chose:

I would love to know what you think of my finished designs!  I need some input on my choices and decisions because I’m struggling with indecisiveness.  It’s SO nice to see it and has definitely helped me decide what I would prefer for certain items and styles.  Mainly it’s the brick wall…I just don’t know!

Overall, I really enjoyed using Modsy and I would definitely use their service again.  They were easy to work with and I really like the designs.  And since I partnered with them on this post, they are offering 20% off any design package for my readers using the code HONEY20.  Be sure to take advantage of this for the new year and get your house looking the way you want it for 2019!
